Blackberry Chia Jam

Blackberry Chia Jam - Gluten Free Vegan

Have you ever looked at the ingredients for a store bought jam? Or perhaps wondered how it lasts so long on the shelves? How much sugar is really in my jam? If you haven’t done any of these I highly suggest you do! Store bought jam is most often excessively high in sugar, low on nutrients and contains ingredients even your grandma doesn’t know how to pronounce. Do you really want to be putting that into your body? I didn’t think so.

This simple 3 ingredient jam is:

rich in protein and omega 3s (from the chia seeds)
low in sugar
refined sugar free
gluten free

Blackberry Chia Jam

Serves: 8 Cooking Time: 5mins


  • 1 punnet blackberries (125g)
  • 2 tbs chia seeds
  • 1 tbs maple syrup



Add all ingredients to high speed blender and blitz for 20-30secs.


Pour into a small air tight jar and store in the fridge. It lasts up to about 2 weeks.


I have found that with maple syrup it mixes really well without heating. Other sweeteners, in my experience are too thick and does not mix well, leaving chunks of it through your jam. Chia seeds are a good plant based source of omega 3s and heating omega 3s can destroy them. Enjoy on toast (I like it with peanut butter), pancakes or whatever you like!
