My partner, our pooch Ralph and I recently visited the Sunshine Coast for a getaway over the Australia Day long weekend. I have to say that overall, our dining experiences were awesome! We visited 4 places that were super yummy and the only thing it was missing was gluten free vegan pancakes! Since getting back to Brisbane I have since seen another place who has them on their menu. My “Where to Next” section features this cafe and also 2 other places we will be hitting up next time for sure and I will write another article once I have dined there too 🙂

1. Elixiba
100% Gluten Free + Vegan Menu
Maroochydore
Dog friendly (very limited – need to call in advance)
It’s not often that you can choose ANYTHING on the food menu when your dietary requirements are both gluten free and vegan! This is definitely my Sunshine Coast favourite for that very reason. We have been here multiple times and loved it! The food is always very tasty and the service super friendly. On our most recent visit we got quite a few dishes to share between us. Our favourites were the antipasto plate, edamame, Mediterranean flatbread and the baked cheesecake. There were a lot of other options we wanted to try so we will be back again on our next visit!
2. Cafe Nurcha
100% vegan menu
Buderim
Dog friendly (lots of outdoor seating)
This is another favourite that we have been to a few times. With a 100% vegan menu and a vegan store inside it’s hard to pass up! There are lots of gluten free items on their menu too. This time Dan and I both got the tempeh burger. It was off the chain delicious! The satay sweet chilli sauce tantalised my taste buds and they had the perfect amount of wedges (which are cooked in a pan rather than a fryer) and side of vegan aioli. We were both very satisfied after this meal! I also got their raw banofee pie to takeaway (again) from their cabinet treats, yum!
3. Moo Free Burgers
100% Vegan Menu
Maryoochydore
Dog friendly (very limited outdoor seating – takeaway available)
I have to say that these guys have really picked up their game since opening! I tried one of their burgers when they first opened but found most of the gluten free vegan options were deep fried. I prefer my burgers made from wholesome ingredients and not fried. The “Don’t be mean, Be green” burger was exactly that! Spinach, broccoli and green peas was right up my alley and the taste blew my mind, it was so delicious! I will definitely be back for more! To note for celiacs their chips are not gluten free due to being fried in oil with other gluten containing foods.
Another bonus about this place is that Raw Squeeze is also at the same location! You can order your smoothies, juice, salad or even raw treats to go with your burger! We got some freshly made juices, the “Liquid Gold” and “Jungle Vibes”. They were so refreshing on such a steaming hot day!
4. Acai Flow
Acai Flow Bowl
I know what you’re thinking… It’s just another acai bowl. Think again! An Acai Flow bowl contains up to 4 times more acai than a standard acai bowl. PLUS they are also significantly reducing plastic use by distributing their acai in 3kg packs to cafes (instead of the usual 100g)! High five for taking action on reducing your environmental impact Acai Flow. I can tell you that I will always order Acai Flow over other brands for this very reason. I know you’re wondering about the taste too… Yep it’s delicious guys and gals! I personally found it a little sweeter than other acai I have tried before, but others say it’s not. So you be the judge! Find it at the locations below.

Coolum Beach

Pancakes are my favourite go to breakfast when I am out but none of the places we went to had them 🙁 Then, since getting back I notice this cafe does gluten free vegan pancakes! PLUS their menu is also 100% gluten free and vegan – if I had have realised this while we were there we would have definitely visited this trip. We have actually been to New Earth Cafe before but not since I went vegan, so this is definitely a must next time we are on the Sunshine Coast.
Hempburger
Burgers & Wraps
Eumundi Markets (Wednesdays & Saturdays only)
Dog friendly (Eumundi Markets)
They have 100% organic vegan menu items with lots of gluten free options, including the above pictured wraps that my girl @run2food got when she went there the same weekend we were at the Sunshine Coast. She said the gluten free buckwheat wraps was the softest ever! NEED!!!
Two Point Oh
Falafel Bowl & Rainbow Rolls
Maroochydore
Dog friendly (outdoor seating available)
This is a new hip vegetarian restaurant that recently opened. They have a number of gluten free vegan options on their lunch menu. We didn’t get to go there this time but will be next time for sure! My eyes are on the falafel bowl, cassava chips and the rainbow rolls.
I hope that by creating this list of gluten free vegan friendly eats it makes dining out on the Sunshine Coast an easier and more pleasurable experience for anyone with these dietary requirements. A special mention to my Sunshine Coast resident vegan foodie friends @jodieciliegia, @christinaaek_ and @plantbase_nourished for helping us decide on where to go 🙂
